a little research

Lately I’ve been thinking it would be interesting to create a logo for women’s street style Nikes that would compliment the main Nike logo.
(much like how the Air Jordan logo accompanies the Nike logo)
Nike Street Wear would be women’s shoes intended for everyday  purposes.
Most women live a healthy, active life that can’t be spent in heels or uncomfortable shoes.
Life’s to short to torture your feet, and it’s also too short to sacrifice style- so get some sneakers!

So here’s a little research I’m doing along the way to creating this logo.
how many shoes do you have?

In my research on shoe shopping (which is very often a sport for women),
I found that most women own about 19 pairs of shoes according to Consumer Reports Research Center.
Honestly, this number feels a bit on the small side to me.
I’ve been asking girls in the age bracket of 18-28 how many shoes they have, and 25 pairs seems to be the median amount.
According to Harper’s Bazar, in the wardrobe of one in two women, there are more than 30 pairs of shoes, while 8% have more than 100 pairs.
This seems more on track in my mind.
The women in the group I surveyed had a collection that consisted of 15% sneakers.
Considering the breakdown of what types of shoes that also make up their collection, such as boots, snow shoes, sandals, flip flops, heels, flats, etc…,
sneakers make a significant amount of their wardrobe.

sneaker needs

During my research, when I asked what factors were most important when considering a sneaker for a shoe purchase, many of the same traits kept popping up.
The drawing above shows the top 6 listed (in order from most mentioned to least meantioned): 1.comfort, 2.design, 3.affordable, 4.versatile, 5.original, 6.light weight.
girls and their nikesWhile it’s hard to pin down the exact breadth of women who would be interested in Nike Street Style,
there were several different personas that stood out in my mind who would fall into this group. (shown above)

Sporty: looking for the function and practicality first and foremost, likes clean/classic design, comfort is also a very important factor
Girly: the design of the shoe is crucial, these girls also wear the occasional boot, heel, or flat – but want something a bit more versatile without sacrificing style
Urban: sleek and eye catching designs are important, looking for design aspects that set a certain shoe above the rest

Came across your blog a while back, while I was searching for some nikes. Not sure if you got your liberty nike’s but wanted to share this link– I have been waiting and waiting, searching and searching. I am a liberty fanatic- just saw these were released on the site–not a bad price either. Enjoy!

What provokes a women to buy a shoe that is propped up by a stick? What provokes a women to buy 30 pairs of shoes?
My only question is; why does the sporty girl appear to have no arm flesh and a steroid induced head? The girly girl needs to hit the bathroom(number 1 and 2), and the urban girl has cornrows(pretty assuming don’t ya think?) :))
Your art pretty much rocks. I’m jealous.

    Enjoy the blog;0

@Allie- those are great AF1s, are you going to get them? Let me know how you like them when you do!
Thanks so much for this link. I saw the high dunks that were available a while back, but I hadn’t seen these on Nike.com yet.
Thanks so much- I really appreciate it.

@ Matt- that’s an interesting take on the post. haha
I’m glad that it’s interesting to you.
I do have to admit that I have way over 30 pairs of shoes…
    thanks for your input, Matt!
