This year to celebrate July 4th, I did a Canadian road trip. It turns out that traveling to another country over an American holiday is a great way to avoid crowds. We flew into Seattle, immediately hit the road in my rental and hopped on the Mukilteo/Whidbey Island Ferry. The ride was a beautiful way to see the sunset. 
Once we reached the shore, we raced off the ferry and made our way through the islands along the Puget Sound. It was so much fun that I wish I’d allotted more time to spend there. That night we made it to Bellingham, Washington. Before collapsing into bed, we walked around their downtown and ate Russian Dumplings at Pel’Meni Restaurant, which I highly recommend. 
What better way to kick off a road trip to Canada than with a sweet new-ish pair of Nikes?!
