Fort Lovrijenac overlooks Old Town in Dubrovnik. Three terraces make up the triangular structure above the West Harbor. Perhaps you recognize bits and pieces of it from Game of Thrones. It was the location of the Red Keep on King Joffrey’s Name Day Tournament.
The fort was named for Saint Lawrence, who was burned alive in AD 258.
According to my very limited google search, he’s the patron saint of archivists, librarians, and maybe even comedians?
Above the drawbridge leading into the fort is the Latin inscription: “Non Bene Pro Toto Libertas Venditur Auro” which roughly translates to “liberty is not well sold for all the gold.”

Fort Lovrijenac looms 120 feet over the ocean below, and offers some of the most beautiful views of the medieval city walls.

It’s a beautiful place. Nice pictures.
