I got to spend a few days in Kansas City this past weekend (the one in Missouri, not to be confused with it’s Kansas City, Kansas neighbor). It’s bigger than I thought it would be–the 6th largest city in the midwest.
Here are a few things to do if you’re in the area:
- Beer Kitchen: This is the place to go if you want bloody’s and brunch (and maybe even a beer back while you’re at it). Order the 8 Hour Corned Beef Hash. You’ll be glad you did.
- The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art: I went to see the work of Cuban photographer Jesse Fernandez. Admission is free for the permanent collection all year round.
- Char Bar: You have to get BBQ while you’re in town.
- The Foundry: Grab a beer, brewed across the street at McCoy’s, and enjoy some snacks. The Foxy Roxxy Red Ale was my favorite.
- Kansas City Bier Company: This German gem is a blast. Grab a pint, a charcuterie plate, and maybe even a brat. Their hefeweizen is delicious!
- Alamo Drafthouse: My Texas people are probably familiar with this hot spot. We went to see Rouge One (oh so good!) and enjoyed some Kansas City Bier as we watched.
Your photos are great – and love those Nikes
I have been to this KS area a few times and you really highlighted the culture rich stuff people sometimes forget is there
Oh thank you for the kind words! You’re sweet! It was my first time in Kansas City and I liked it a lot. Great to hear from you!
We are frequent visitors to KC. (Be there in 2 days.) Thanks for the updates on the Westport area. Looks tasty!
Oh really?! I had no idea. Any recommendations if we return?
We followed your suggestion and ate at the Char Bar. YUMMY! We dine in Overland Park with friends often and have been to Cinzetti’s, J. Gilbert’s, and Jack Stack. Cinzetti’s is my favorite, an Italian buffet with a great country market layout. Starve yourself before going. Museums you might try are the NATIONAL WORLD WAR I MUSEUM AND MEMORIAL with great views of the city, the Arabia Museum displaying the contents of an old 19th century steamboat recovered from the river bottom, and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, not our forte’ but we saw a Warhol, a Lichtenstein, and a Maplethorpe (the Kemper is very small and free admission, very near the Nelson). The Plaza is a nice shopping walk-around with some good restaurants and Union Station likewise, in a grand old fin d’siecle rail terminal.
oh my goodness! What a wonderful list! I can’t wait to try this stuff out!!!!!!! Thank you, John. I appreciate it so much and I’ll let you know what I think!
I like KC.
me too 😉
You were studying the folded sculpture pretty intently. Anything hidden? 🙂
Happy New Year!
Haha, I LOVED that piece. I was trying to figure out how they attached each shape to the wall. What ingenuity!
Thanks for sharing your ‘adventure’ with us and nice shoes!
Bier!
Prost!
Love Kansas City! Beautiful Pictures!
