It recently poured snow in Kansas City a few days ago, giving me my first opportunity to see this little town blanketed in winter goodness. The streets were pretty empty, leaving the snow basically pristine (a sight I rarely ever saw in Chicago). We celebrated the snow-weekend like a couple of no good millennials who pay too much for avocado toast. This particular mouthwatering brunch was at one of my favorite KCMO cafes, Banksia. The owners are from Australia, so yes–this place serves flat whites (an espresso with micro foam, which makes for a stronger, tastier latte). Their Bloody Maria’s are pretty great too.
We attempted to walk off brunch by wandering around the WWI memorial. It was like a ghost town and we were kicked out once we neared the monument itself. A loud voice came over the speakers and told us, “you two walking alone with a camera,” to get outta there.
I know sneakerheads are known for having an ever-growing collection of shoes. But that is something I greatly try to limit. We honestly don’t need as much stuff as we buy. That’s why I geek out when I can keep a pair for years and years, getting great use out of them along the way. I purchased these Nike ACG boots in 2013 and have been wearing the heck out of them since. Wahoo for shoes that last and saying no to things I don’t need!
The observation deck was closed to. The security guys there are jerks.
haha! Did you try to go take pictures?
I did. Luckily some guy walking ahead of me got loud speakered first, so I didn’t walk all the way up there. Your pictures look cool. I should have gone down there.
haha! They were on fire! I wonder if it was closed because of the shut down or the snow.
I assumed it was the snow. I don’t think they can treat the walkway without damaging it. I might have to Google that.
that’s a good point! It sure looked beautiful with all the snow!
I’ll go tomorrow and see if it’s still closed. If Union Station is still red I’m going to say it’s a communist takeover to cause trouble and amuse myself.
Union Station was closed? I didn’t even know that!
I hope you looked around when you got speakered, pretending if they were addressing someone else. Hope you stopped off for nice treat instead. 🙂
HAHA We did!!!!!! That’s when he said, “yes you two wandering alone with the camera”
