Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, Australia. There was something about it that reminded me of a much cleaner version of New Orleans. It’s on the bay, and a river winds throw the city center. The architecture is quite diverse and interesting, you can easily take boats to get around the city, and there is a fun night scene. Here’s what we were up to: We stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton. They have a great bar on the […]
As a grown-up traveler, it’s easy to write off a trip to a zoo as you make your way around a new country. Well–don’t be fooled and skip over The Australia Zoo. This may have been where I felt the most acute culture shock on my trip down under. Animals just hop around, out of cages, for you to pet and feed as you please. It was insanity! Oh and I got to cuddle with a koala. His name was […]
Noosa is a small shire on The Sunshine Coast of Australia. It’s pretty much paradise rolled into a great piece of sushi on a surfboard at sunset. It’s home to a bunch of koalas and surfing contests. We did the coastal hike and loved every minute of it. Don’t miss out on dipping into the water yourself! After drying off, we grabbed a semi-fancy dinner at MakiMoto, where the salmon belly was oh so good!
Maleny, also located just outside of Brisbane, is very close to Tamborine Mountain. We stayed in this little town for a night and really enjoyed it. Here’s what we got up to: We stayed at Top of The Hill B&B. We opted for a cheaper room, so it was tiny. But the food was great–and you get to eat your breakfast on a balcony with a wonderful view. Caught the sunrise near the Glasshouse Mountains. Did the nature walk at […]
The Gold Coast of Australia is a huge tourist destination. There are tons of shops and high rises, beaches for surfing, restaurants and bars, theme parks, and it’s located right by the rainforest. Because of the rise of the film and music industry, it’s been nicknamed the Hollywood of Australia. We only spent one night there, and I think we still got a pretty good feel for it. Here’s what we were up to: We stayed at the Sheraton Mirage […]
Tamborine Mountain in the Scenic Rim of Queensland Australia, is a beautiful rainforest, with tons of vegetation and waterfalls. We stayed in the small town for a few days and soon discovered it’s home to some of the sweetest folks. It seems to be a great little weekend getaway for the people who live in Brisbane. After hiking at Curtis and Witches Falls, we made friends at Fortitude Brewery and joined them for a delicious bbq dinner at Hickory. It was honestly […]
After spending a few days in Sydney–we hopped on a plane to Melbourne. I really enjoyed the laid back nature of the Australian airline, Quantas. Of course, it wouldn’t be Australian if it wasn’t laid back. First thing we did was take a cab to our hotel, The Sheraton in the Docklands. I really enjoyed that area, with architecture that is so wacky and colorful–you feel like you’re in the middle of a Dr. Seuss book. Statues and instillations litter the […]
I’m so excited to share one of the most remarkable trips I’ve ever taken with you all. It started through a jet lagged foggy haze Down Under. I just wrapped a weeklong shoot in California (see some of that trip on my Carhartt blog here), and I had a few new lenses in tow. My incredible travel-deal-driven husband booked us first class tickets–all on points. The trip was long, but raced by: A week and a half in Australia, a […]
