I love New Years. There are a lot of reasons for all this adoration. You’re surrounded with family and friends, you’re taking a breather from work, and your main focus is a having a blast. A few days after each new year, I go through photos from the year before. I love reliving and remembering each place I visited, all the folks I spent time with, and the crazy things I got to do. I think we can all agree that […]
Lollapalooza is mayhem, it’s a madhouse, and every year I find myself back there. This go-round it was 4 days long. I got to see Radiohead, M83, Bastille, Big Grams (Big Boi and Phantogram), Miike Snow, Frightened Rabbit, Leon Bridges, Chris Stapleton, Two Door Cinema Club, St. Lucia, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Silversun Pickups, Haim, Bloc Party, and LCD Soundsystem. That’s right. I said Radiohead. It was my first time seeing them, and I sure as heck hope it’s not my […]
Pitchfork weekend has come and gone. It was fun. It was a blur. It was very muddy. From Future Islands to Run the Jewels, I was in heaven. Sleater Kinny, Caribou, & New Pornographers weren’t too shabby either. Future Islands is one of my favorite bands at the moment. If you haven’t heard of them, you have to check them out. Here’s a great song: Seasons (just listen, don’t watch the video– it’s insanely cornball and nothing like them). The front man, Samuel […]
Now, I do see the irony in spending July 4th with The Rolling Stones. But I’ll tell you, it was a blast. The seasoned English performers even put on a firework display. All of the band member where wearing sneakers, but I’d love to point out that Keith Richards was wearing Nikes. How kick ass is that?! See the photo below: All I can say is that I hope to be as awesome as that when I’m in my 70s! The show […]
I’m big on birthdays. I mean big. I’m not sure why. It’s not like I hope for huge mind-blowing presents or anything like that. It’s just so exciting to have a day where everyone congratulates you for being born and hanging around for another year. I also like dragging the special days out for as long as possible– to milk it for all it’s worth. It only comes once a year after all. Now my birthday is in August, so this post […]

Another year, another Lolla. I have a love/hate relationship with it myself. I’m sure that’s true for many. But hey, where else can you see an endless number of bands in a matter of 3 days? Here are a few things I learned about the festival. Let’s start with the etymology of the word. Lollapalooza (lä-lə-pə-ˈlü-zə) is a noun that was first used in the late 1800s meaning “an extraordinary or unusual thing, person, or event; an exceptional example or […]

In the spirit of gearing up for 3 days of Lollapalooza, I went to the Broken Bells and Wild Cub concert last night at House of Blues. What a great show! The House of Blues in Chicago is really crazy. You can tell it’s an old venue right when you walk in. Then imagine throwing a painted junk yard on the walls and there you go! So Broken Bells is made up of two amazing artists merged into a whole […]

This is a quick photo diary of this past week of concerts. I got to go to 3 awesome shows with 6 performances. AH! Whatta week! Out of all the artists, I have to admit that I love watching Foals. All of their songs start off slow and eventually build up to this dynamic rush. I was also pleasantly surprised by St. Lucia. I’d heard of them before, but didn’t really think much beyond that. They did a great job– […]

I went to a Foals concert last Saturday night at the Vic in Chicago. Talk about an insanely good show. Holy Fire is a hell of an album. “My Number” is destined to be a huge hit. My personal favorite is “Bad Habit.” The lead singer is a maniac. He was crowd surfing, still playing his guitar. He scaled walls and even climbed up into one of the box seats. In short, check them out. Get your dance on!
